oh, maxim how i hate you.
i hate maxim. i hate it because it objectifies women. i hate it because it is "acceptable" porn. but mostly, i hate it because of it's online category called something like "dump her."
what is there, you ask? oh, only videos of big-chested, perfect-bodied 'hotties' telling men to break up with their girlfriends for them, as they playfully undress, pose, and expose.
i blame maxim. and other 'acceptable' forms of soft porn (or T&A, if you prefer), for making good-looking, average women feel worthless, ugly and undesirable.
i mean, do guys really buy into that shit?
say it ain't so.

Agreed even though that's probably a contradiction for someone with a blog like mine.
As for whether or not men buy into it, at one time I think Maxim was the number 1 selling mag on the planet so the answer might sadly be yes. But I think most mature dudes know that it's only a fantasy in much the same way that people dream of a time when the odds of marital commitments succeeding weren't so statistically dismal. Sad state of affairs but that's probably what makes finding a real person to hang with that much more rewarding.
Excellent post by the way.

If that is really what guys are into, it would fail to explain the rabid success of Asian massage parlors.

The same guys who have made Maxim one of the biggest selling magazines in the world are the same d-bags who believe that Axe body spray is going to get you laid in an elevator.

You're hot. I'm hot. We're all hot.
Those Maxim girls are lame.
That's how I see it anyway ... Insightful, I know.

Maxim just exemplifies the lowest common denominator as does most "entertainment" industry stereotypes. There are thousands of us (men) who don't agree.

Maxim is my favorite magazine, so I know I'm pretty low on the sensitivity curve, but cripes.
It never once occurred to me that anyone would ever actually call up one of the women in "Dump Your Girlfriend For Me".
Until you brought it up. Women take every thing the wrong way.

There is nothing wrong with eye candy. However, if a person can't separate the reality from the fantasy then that is an issue. For me my fantasies of the women in those magazines are just that and in no way would be comparable to a woman with substance. The majority of women in the world are way more than the sum of their body parts and for that I'm grateful. It would be a boring place if all the women on this earth were Maxim girls.
